Suzanne and Richard Bretherick were married August 7th, 1971
49 years……
On October 17th, 2020, Mom was diagnosed with COVID-19. Dad was diagnosed with the same diagnosis just a day later. Over the next 23 days, our lives were torn apart. They passed away just 12 days apart, Suzanne on October 29th and Richard on November 10th. We created the Suzanne and Richard Bretherick Memorial Fund to honor their passion of helping others, share the memories made with family and friends thru service, and help encourage others to do the same in their honor. The “gift of memories” comforts us after losing our heroes.
An Introduction...for those who don’t know our Parents
Our mom, Suzanne Bretherick, taught 1st and 2nd grade at Magnolia Elementary in Memphis, TN, for 34 years. She devoted her life to education. She never gave a second thought to leaving “her Magnolia kids” and one of the greatest joy in her life was hearing that they were succeeding, achieving, and excelling at school and life!
Our dad, Richard Bretherick, was a devoted volunteer coach of multiple Collierville sports. He coached almost every team his young children played on until they reached school sanctioned sports. Some days, he ran from field to field so that he didn’t miss a game. He coached the following sports in Collierville: baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer, which he barely knew much about..
Richard and Suzanne loved their community of Collierville, Tennessee due to the friends and families that made it such. They could always be found on the sideline of a sporting event whether coaching or cheering on their kids or others after Heather, Ricky, and Matthew were not playing anymore.
Later in life, they became the grandparents of Brette and Morgan Weldy. Richard and Suzanne became part of the NVS Dance family. Rarely did they miss a recital or competition, often traveling to make sure their two granddaughters had cheerleaders everywhere they went. They were Nana and Papa, the biggest fans of their two granddaughters. Truly, there wasn’t a dancer they didn’t cheer on.
Kelsey went above and beyond for our family while mom and dad were in her care, even when she wasn't their nurse. See Ricky's letter above.
